أتعبْتَ نفسكَ بَيْنَ ذلة كادح

أتعبْتَ نفسكَ بَيْنَ ذلة كادح

طلبَ الحَيَاةَ وبيْنَ حِرص مؤَمِّلِ

طلبَ الحَيَاةَ وبيْنَ حِرص مؤَمِّلِ

You wearied yourself between the abasement of a toiler

You have wearied yourself between the humiliation of toil

who sought a living, and the greed of one who hopes.

Seeking life, and greedy anticipation

وأَضَعْتَ عُمْرك لا خلاعة ماجن

وأَضَعْتَ عُمْرك لا خلاعة ماجن

حَصَّلتَ فِيهِ ولا وقارَ مُبَجَّل

حَصَّلتَ فِيهِ ولا وقارَ مُبَجَّل

And you wasted your life: neither a libertine's debauchery

And you have wasted your life without virtuous dignity

did you attain in it, nor the dignity of one held in honor.

Attaining from it neither gain nor honourable gravity

وَتركتَ حظَّ النفس فِي الدنيا وَفِي ال

وَتركتَ حظَّ النفس فِي الدنيا وَفِي ال

أخْرَى ورَحْتَ عن الجميع بمعزل

أخْرَى ورَحْتَ عن الجميع بمعزل

And you forsook the soul's share in this world and in the
