بالشّعب كَذا عن يَمْنَةِ الحيّ قفِ

بالشّعب كَذا عن يَمْنَةِ الحيّ قفِ

واذْكرْ جُملاً من شَرْحِ حالي وَصِفِ

واذْكرْ جُملاً من شَرْحِ حالي وَصِفِ

Stop thus in the ravine, to the right of the encampment.

With the people thus from the right side of the alley stop,

And recount some details of my condition, and describe it.

And remember some of the explanation of my state describe.

إنْ هُمُ رُحَمّوا كان وإلا حَسبي

إنْ هُمُ رُحَمّوا كان وإلا حَسبي

مِنْهُمُ وكفى بأن فيهم تلفي

مِنْهُمُ وكفى بأن فيهم تلفي

If they show mercy, well and good; otherwise, enough for me

If they had mercy, so it was, and if not, enough for me

from them—and it suffices—is that in them lies my undoing.

From them, and sufficient that among them you intermix.
