Increase my bewilderment through overwhelming love for you,

And have mercy on a heart set ablaze by the flame of love for you.

And when I ask you to let me see you in truth,

Then grant it, and do not answer me, 'You shall not see.'

O heart, you promised me, in loving them,

Patience—so beware of becoming distressed and impatient.

Indeed, passionate love is life itself; so die of it,

Lovesick—for it is your right to die and be excused.

Tell those who preceded me, and those

After me, and whoever has come to see my sorrows:

Learn from me, follow my example, and listen to me,

And speak of my ardent longing among humankind.

And indeed, I was alone with the beloved, and between us

Was a secret subtler than the breeze as it drifted by.

And he granted my eyes a glance I had hoped for,

So I became known, though I had been unrecognized.

So I was awestruck between his beauty and his majesty,

And the tongue of my state began to speak on my behalf.

    تَلْقَى جميعَ الحُسْنِ فيه مُصَوَّرا

    So turn your gaze upon the beauties of his face;

You will find all beauty portrayed in it.

If all beauty were made complete in a form,

And saw him, it would proclaim, 'There is no god but God!' and 'God is greatest!'
