إنif مُتّI die وزارَand visits تُرْبَتيmy grave منthe one whom أَهْوَىI love
إن مُتّ وزارَ تُرْبَتي من أَهْوَى
لبَّيْتُI would answer مناجِياًcommuning intimately بغيرِwithout النَجْوَىwhispered speech
لبَّيْتُ مناجِياً بغيرِ النَجْوَى
If I died and the one I love visited my grave’s dust,
If I die and the one I love visits my grave,
I would rise again, communing without whispered speech.
I would answer, communing without a whisper.
فيin السرsecret أقولI say ياoh تُرىI wonder ماwhat صَنَعَتْhave done
في السر أقول يا تُرى ما صَنَعَتْ
ألحاظُكَyour glances بيto me وليسَand is not هَذَاthis شَكْوَىa complaint
ألحاظُكَ بي وليسَ هَذَا شَكْوَى
In secret I say, “I wonder what
In secret I say, “I wonder, what have
your sidelong glances have done to me”—yet this is not my complaint.
your glances done to me? And this is no complaint.”
