ما أصنَعُ وَقَدْ أَبْطَأَ عليّ الخَبرُ
وَيْلاَهُalas! إلىuntil مَتَىwhen وكَمْand how long أَنْتَظِرُI wait
وَيْلاَهُ إلى مَتَى وكَمْ أَنْتَظِرُ
What shall I do, when the news has been slow to reach me?
What shall I do, for the news has been delayed for me
Alas! Until when, and how long shall I wait?
Alas, for how long must I wait
كمhow much أَحِمِلُI bear كمhow much أكْتُمُI conceal كمhow much أصطَبِرُI endure patiently
كم أَحِمِلُ كم أكْتُمُ كم أصطَبِرُ
يُقْضَىis brought to an end أجليmy lifespan ولَيْسَand not يُقْضَىis fulfilled وَطَرُa desire
يُقْضَى أجلي ولَيْسَ يُقْضَى وَطَرُ
How much must I bear, how much conceal, how much patiently endure?
How much can I bear, how much can I conceal, how much can I be patient
My life comes to an end, yet my desire is not fulfilled.
My time will come to an end, yet my desire will not
