You are midway between two opposites, O hu-

You are between two opposites, O human

man, you were fashioned as a form in prime matter.

Whose form is built in primordial matter

إن عصيت الهوى علوت علوّاً

إن عصيت الهوى علوت علوّاً

أو أطعت الهوى سفلت سفولا

أو أطعت الهوى سفلت سفولا

If you disobey desire, you rise high;

If you disobey desire you ascend to the highest

or if you obey desire, you sink low.

Or if you obey desire you descend to the lowest
