a prophet who possessed the prophets' excellence and became

And in you, from Abraham when he trod the earth,

is a visible footprint whose testimony is age-old.

He issued a summons atop al-Safa, and was answered

by a slow-paced camel from the deep pass, and a trotting one.

and was understood only by the discerning and the learned.

Alas for fates that turned my resolve away from you,

so my resolutions never rose to lead me to you.

when the clouds within you call upon God?

And will the sins I have committed be wiped away from me

by my footsteps within you, or by hardy, trotting she-camels?

And may I have a drink of the water offered to your pilgrims,

and of Zamzam, with which a thirsting wanderer quenches his soul?

when oryx and doves have found safety there?

toward you, I surely come to you in my heart.

your exalted Kaaba, and as long as anyone stands in prayer.
