وذاتand one with عمىًblindness لهاshe has طرفٌan eye بصيرkeen-sighted
إذاwhen رمدتshe becomes sore-eyed فأبصرthen most keen-sighted ماever تكونshe is
And a blind one has an eye that sees;
Though blind, she has a seeing eye
When her eye is inflamed, her sight is keenest.
When bleary-eyed, it sees clear as can be
لهاshe has منfrom غيرهاsomething other than herself نفسٌa soul معارborrowed
وناظرهاand her pupil لدىto الأبصارthe eyes طينclay
She has a soul borrowed from another,
Apart from her it has a borrowed soul
And her pupil, to the eye, is clay.
And among the keenest sights, it's but mud
وتبطشand she strikes باليمينwith the right hand إذاwhen أردناwe wish
وليسand there is not لهاfor her إذاwhen بطشتshe strikes يمينa right hand
And she strikes with the right hand when we wish,
She strikes hard with her right when we wish
Yet when she strikes, she has no right hand.
Yet when striking, she has no right hand
