By your life, Layth—though I am one of them—
By your life, though you are one of them, you are no lion
Layth will not cease opposing and disobeying me.
My leaving the lions is contrary to them and rebellious

And they gave me up on the day at Dhu al-Ramth wa-l-Ghada—the place of ramth shrubs and ghada trees—
And they surrendered me on the day of Dhi al-Rumath and al-Ghada
And they left me between Harsha and Waddan.
And they left me between Harsha and Waddan

Just as ‘Adwan’s chiefs had grown numerous before.
