شَفى النَفسَ ما يَلقى بِعَبدَةَ مُغرَماً

شَفى النَفسَ ما يَلقى بِعَبدَةَ مُغرَماً

وَما كانَ يَلقى قَلبُهُ وَضَرائِبُه

وَما كانَ يَلقى قَلبُهُ وَضَرائِبُه

What he endures, enamored of ʿAbda, has healed the soul,

Meet the soul what it finds with worshipers enamored

And what his heart and his dispositions used to endure.

And not was it finds his heart and adversities

فَأَقصَرَ عَن رامي الفُؤادِ وَإِنَّما

فَأَقصَرَ عَن رامي الفُؤادِ وَإِنَّما

يَميلُ بِهِ أَمسى اِعتِراضٌ يُطالِبُه

يَميلُ بِهِ أَمسى اِعتِراضٌ يُطالِبُه

So he turned away from the heart’s archer; and only

So fell short from archer of heart and only

An obstruction pressing its claim upon him has now come to sway him.

It inclines with him evening interception claiming him
