دارَتwent round لَهُfor him الكَأسُthe cup حَتّىuntil زاحَdeparted باطِلُهُhis falsehood
دارَت لَهُ الكَأسُ حَتّى زاحَ باطِلُهُ
فَطَرفُهُso his gaze نائِمٌasleep فيin عَينِthe eye of يَقظانِone awake
فَطَرفُهُ نائِمٌ في عَينِ يَقظانِ
The cup went round for him until his falsehood fell away;
The cup kept passing round till the unreal was exposed,
so his gaze sleeps in the eye of one awake.
While, in vigilant eyes, its partaker slept.
رَيحانَةُa sprig of sweet basil القَلبِthe heart لَوif كانَتshe were تُساعِدُنيshe favors me
رَيحانَةُ القَلبِ لَو كانَت تُساعِدُني
إِذَنthen رَضيتُI would be content بِهاwith her مِنin place of كُلِّall رَيحانِsweet basil
إِذَن رَضيتُ بِها مِن كُلِّ رَيحانِ
If the heart’s sweet basil would favor me,
Had the plant of the heart assisted me,
then I would be content with her in place of all sweet basil.
I would have been content with it instead of all plants.
