فَوَاللَهِSo, by God ماnot أَدريI know وَكُلٌّand each مُصيبَةٌa calamity
فَوَاللَهِ ما أَدري وَكُلٌّ مُصيبَةٌ
بِأَيِّby which مَكيداتِwiles النِساءِof women أُكادُI am ensnared
بِأَيِّ مَكيداتِ النِساءِ أُكادُ
So, by God, I do not know—and each is a calamity—
By Allah, I know not, and every misfortune
By which of women's wiles I am ensnared.
By what plots of women I am nearly undone.

The deceit of promises, as though their bounty
Vain promises, as though their cords
Were that of lightning flashes whose clouds yield no rain.
Were live coals whose heat is never gone.
