Say to Hubba: draw me close.

You are my soul and my life,

And my cares when I run,

And my words in my prayer.

Hubba, miserliness is indeed an evil,

Not the way of the noble.

So unite with me, or leave me

    An idol for visiting women.

Hubba, if you wished, we would meet

    For a sitting before death.

Then we would give you life, and live ourselves,

    With this and that.

I have forced myself to be patient, but

    My patience will not oblige.

And I remembered you in the quarter,

    So my tears overflowed.

And I pretended to forget, so I might forget,

Then something like deep sleep overcame me.

And the Angel of Death appeared to me,

    Enshrouding me in my death.

    Indeed, Hubba has bewitched me

    With hopes and promises,

    With coquetry and talk

    Like the blossoming of plants.

And her eye and her mouth

    Are among the greatest temptations,

    And her beauty and coquetry

Are like the coyness of modest women.

I am among those whom God has tormented

    Through Hubba and the tale-bearers.

So my wailing is over Hubba,

And my complaint is to God.
