ياO عَبدَʿAbda (name) بِاللَهِby God فَرِّجيrelieve كُرَبيmy troubles
فَقَدfor indeed بَرانيhas worn me down وَشَفَّنيand wasted me away نَصَبيmy weariness
O ʿAbda, by God, relieve my anguish.
O servant of God, relieve my hardship
For my weariness has worn me down and wasted me away.
For trials have afflicted me and fatigue overcame me
وَضِقتُand I felt constrained ذَرعاًin endurance بِماby what كَلِفتُI became enamored بِهِof it
مِنof حُبِّكُمlove for you وَالمُحِبُّand the lover فيin تَعَبِdistress
And I can no longer bear what I am enamored of:
I have been strained to the utmost by what I was charged with
Love for you—and the lover is in distress.
Of love for you, and the lover is in agony
فَفَرِّجيso relieve كُربَةًan anguish شَجيتُI was grieved بِهاby it
وَحَرَّand the heat حُزنٍof sorrow فيin الصَدرِthe breast كَاللَهَبِlike a flame
So relieve the anguish that has grieved me,
So relieve the hardship that pained me
And the heat of sorrow in my breast, like a flame.
And the burning sorrow in my chest like flames
وَلاand do not تَظنّيthink ماwhat أَشتَكيI complain of لَعِباًplay
هَيهاتَfar from it! قَدindeed جَلَّhas become too grave ذاthis عَنِbeyond اللَعِبِplay
And do not think what I complain of is mere play.
And think not that I complain out of play
Far from it! This is far too grave for play.
Far be it! That has long gone from play
