ياO عَبدَʿAbd (name) زورينيvisit me تَكُنit will be مِنَّةٌa favor
لِلّهِGod's عِنديfor me يَومَon the day أَلقاكِI meet you
O ʿAbd, visit me; it will be a favor
O slave, visit me, it would be a favor
From God to me, on the day I meet you.
From God when I meet you
وَاللَهِby God ثُمَّthen اللَهِGod فَاِستَيقِنيso be certain
إِنّيindeed I لَأَرجوكِI surely hope for you وَأَخشاكِand I fear you
By God, then by God—so be certain:
By God, then by God, be assured
I do place my hope in you and fear you.
That I hope for you and fear you
ياO عَبدَʿAbd (name) إِنّيindeed I هالِكٌdying مُدنَفٌgravely ill
إِنَif لَمnot أَذُقI taste بَردَcoolness ثَناياكِyour front teeth
O ʿAbd, I am dying, gravely ill,
O slave, I am wretched and disgraced
If I do not taste the coolness of your front teeth.
If I don't taste the coolness of your embrace
فَلاso do not تَرُدّيturn away عاشِقاًa lover مُدنَفاًgravely ill
يَرضىis content بِهَذاwith this القَدرِthe amount مِنof ذاكِthat
So do not turn away a gravely ill lover
So don't turn away a wretched lover
Who is content with this much of that.
Who is content with this much of you
