لِحَديثٍ وَاِرقُبِ الدُرَعا
My master, do not come in moonlight
My lord, do not come on a moonlit night
To converse; await the nights that begin in darkness.
for a chat, and mind the coat of mail,
وَتَوَقَّand avoid الطيبَthe perfume لَيلَتَناon our night
وَتَوَقَّ الطيبَ لَيلَتَنا
إِنَّهُindeed, it is واشٍa telltale إِذاwhen سَطَعاits scent spreads
إِنَّهُ واشٍ إِذا سَطَعا
And avoid perfume on our night:
and withhold the perfume on our night,
Indeed, it is a telltale when its fragrance spreads.
for the moon is a tale-bearer when it shines.
