نَظَرَتgazed عَينيmy eye لِحيَنيto my doom
نَظَراًa gaze وافَقَbefitted شَينيmy disgrace
My eye gazed, to my undoing,
My eyes glanced at him for a moment,
with a gaze befitting my disgrace.
A glance that fit my passion.
سَتَرَتshe covered لَمّاwhen رَأَتنيshe saw me
دونَهُbefore it بِالراحَتَينِwith both palms
She covered it when she saw me,
She covered when she saw me
with both palms held before it.
With both palms.
فَبَدَتand appeared مِنهُof it فُضولٌexcess portions
لَنwill not تُوارىbe concealed بِاليَدَينِwith both hands
Yet parts of it still showed,
Some excess was revealed,
never to be concealed by both hands.
That will not be hidden by hands.
فَاِنثَنَتso she bent حَتّىuntil تَوارىit became hidden
بَينَbetween طَيِّthe fold of العَكنَتَينِthe two belly-rolls
So she bent until it was hidden
So she bent until it was hidden
in the crease between her two belly-rolls.
Between the folds of the cheeks.
فَتَمَنَّيتُso I wished وَقَلبيand my heart
لِلهَوىfor passion فيin زَفرَتَينِtwo sighs
Then I wished, while my heart
And my heart wished,
breathed two sighs of passion,
For love in two sighs,
أَنَّنيthat I كُنتُI was عَلَيهِupon it
ساعَةًan hour أَوor ساعَتَينِtwo hours
that I were upon it
That I was upon it
for an hour or two.
For an hour or two.
