    Meet Harb and greet him,

then ask him about the cup.

Is it near enough to visit,

or has it risen high beside the star?

If it is in the sky, I shall turn

away from it and not insist.

Al-Mufaddal has indeed kept faith with me—

son of ʿUbād—and has not faltered.

And we weighed him against the generous

men: he matched them, and indeed outweighed them.

So his is the preeminence, wherever he may

be, over anyone who promised and was stingy.
