كَفىit suffices حَزَناًas sorrow أَنَّthat الجَوادَthe generous man مُقَتَّرٌgiven scant means
كَفى حَزَناً أَنَّ الجَوادَ مُقَتَّرٌ
عَلَيهِupon him وَلاand no مَعروفَkindness عِندَwith بَخيلِa miser
عَلَيهِ وَلا مَعروفَ عِندَ بَخيلِ
It is sorrow enough that the generous man is straitened
Enough sorrow that the generous man is needy,
in his means, while no kindness is found with a miser.
With no kindness from a miser to aid him.
