وَتولَعُand is enamored النَفسُthe soul بِماof what لاnot تَنالit attains
I may attain a desire though it is withheld.
I realize my needs are forbidden
And the soul is enamored of what it cannot attain.
And my soul craves what I cannot attain
وَالهَمُّand sorrow ماas long as أَمسَكتَهُyou keep it فيin الحَشاthe breast
داءٌa disease وَبَعضُand some of الداءِthe disease لاnot يُستَقالcan be cured
And sorrow, as long as you keep it within your breast,
The worry I contain within my bosom
is a disease—and some disease cannot be cured.
Is an illness, and some illness cannot be cured
فَاِحتَمِلِso bear الهَمَّsorrow عَلىupon عاتِقٍa shoulder
إِنif لَمnot تُساعِفكَaids you العَلَندىthe sturdy camel الجُلالthe mighty
So bear sorrow upon your shoulder,
So bear the worry upon your shoulders
if the mighty, sturdy camel does not aid you.
If the mighty kings do not assist you
