I fear for you an envious woman among the neighbors,

Or a jealous man's arrow, which he shoots at me and you.

Had it not been for the watchful women when you bade farewell, leaving in the morning,

I would have kissed your mouth and said, 'My soul is your ransom.'

O you whose saliva is sweetest of all, though untried,

Except through the testimony of the tips of tooth-cleaning sticks.

    عودي وَلا تَجعَليها بَيضَةَ الديكِ

    You have visited us only once in all time;

Return, and do not make it a rooster's egg.

O mercy of God, dwell in our homes.

The scent of Paradise from your mouth is enough for me.

Indeed, what departs envied for its good fortune

Is a hand that touches you, or a hand that passes something to you.

And if you granted us a day to live on,

You would revive a soul, and that would be among your good deeds.
