And indeed, my affection led me to him,
and his wish for gratitude and praise to encompass him.
فَماfor not جِئتُهُI came to him حَتّىuntil رَأَيتُI saw خَلايِقاًvirtues

For no sooner had I come to him than I saw virtues
with which he heals the sick—sweeter than honey.
وَصَغَّرَand diminished فيin عَينيmy eye اِختِبارُexperience of خِصالِهِhis qualities

And experiencing his qualities diminished in my eyes
the beauty of reports that had reached me from afar.
فَكَمfor how many نِعمَةٍa blessing أُلبِستُهاI was clothed in it بَعدَafter نِعمَةٍa blessing
وَكَمand how many نَفحَةٍa gift فيin جَودَةٍgenerosity حَصَلتcame to be عِنديin my possession
For how many a blessing have I been clothed in, blessing after blessing,
and how many a gift, through generosity, has come into my keeping!
