لَحىmay ... curse اللَهُGod حَمّادَHammad بنَson of نِهياNihya فَإِنَّهُfor indeed he
ذَميمٌvile إِذاwhen ماever (emphatic) قامَhe stands عِلجٌa brute إِذاwhen قَعَدhe sits
May God curse Hammad ibn Nihya, for he is
Vile when he stands, a brute when he sits;
مِنَamong المُدمِنينَthose addicted to الطَعنَpenetration قُبلاًfrom the front وَمُدبَراًand from behind
مُسامَحَةًfreely مِنwith غَيرِno مَنٍّreproach for favors وَلاnor حَسَدenvy
One of those addicted to penetration, front and rear,
Freely, without reproach or envy.
يَقولُhe says إِذاwhen راحَgo off الأَوانِسُthe young women حُيَّضاًmenstruating
I would give my life for خَليلاًa lover لاnot يَحيضُhe menstruates وَلاnor يَلِدgives birth
He says, when the young women go off menstruating:
'My life for a lover who neither menstruates nor gives birth!'
وَماand there is no فيin سُهَيلٍSuhayl طائِلٌworth غَيرَexcept أَنَّهُthat he
إِذاwhen نيكَhe is fucked أَعطىhe gives غَيرَnot كِزٍّstingy وَلاnor جَحِدgrudging
There is no good in Suhayl, except that
When fucked, he gives, neither stingy nor grudging.
وَيَقطَعُand severs وُدّيmy affection مِنfrom سُهَيلِSuhayl بنِson of سالِمٍSalim
كَبِرتُI have grown old وَلاand not يَرجوhe hopes for طِعانيmy thrusting إِذاwhen اِنفَرَدhe is alone
And this severs my affection for Suhayl ibn Salim:
I have grown old, and he expects no thrusts from me when alone.
وَقَدand indeed كُنتُI used to أَحياناًsometimes أُمَنّيهِgive him hopes بِالمُنىwith promises
فَيَحفىso he attends solicitously بِحاجاتيto my needs وَيُنجِزُand fulfills ماwhat وَعَدhe promised
And sometimes I would entice him with promises,
So he would tend to my needs and fulfill what he promised.
فَلَمّاbut when غَداhe came to be فيin المُلكِpower ضاقَتgrew tight بِهِon him اِستُهُhis arse
وَآلىand he swore يَميناًan oath لاnot يَجودُbe generous عَلىto أَحَدanyone
But when he came to power, his arse grew tight,
And he swore an oath to be generous to no one.
أَهانَscorned سُهَيلٌSuhayl حاجَتيmy request فَأَهَنتُهُso I scorned him
كَذَلِكَthus مَنwhoever يُطلَبis called to account بِأَسلافِهِfor his past deeds يَجِدfinds
Suhayl scorned my request, so I scorned him.
Thus whoever is called to account for his past deeds gets his due.
إِذاwhen ذُكِرَis mentioned النابيthe jutting one تَلَمَّطَتِlicks its lips اِستُهُhis arse
وَبَرَّقَand he flashes عَينَيهِhis two eyes لِوِردٍfor a draught مَتىwhen يَرِدit will arrive
When the jutting one is mentioned, his arse licks its lips,
And he flashes his eyes for a draught—when will it come?
رَأىhe saw مُنعِظاًa man with an erection يَوماًone day وَقَدand indeed طالَhad grown long عَهدُهُhis time since last contact
مِنِfrom اِستِهِhis arse الماءُthe water كَالزَبَدlike foam
One day he saw a man with an erection, after a long interval:
From his arse, water like foam.
بَكىwept الخَزُّthe silk cloth لَمّاwhen مَسَّit touched جِلدَthe skin of اِبنِson of سالِمٍSalim
وَأَعوَلَand wailed عودُthe staff of الخَيزَرانَةِthe bamboo وَالأُسُدand the lions
The silk wept when it touched Ibn Salim's skin,
And the bamboo staff and the lions wailed.
وَماand not المِنبَرُthe pulpit السوسِيُّSusi بِاِستِwith the arse of اِبنِson of سالِمٍSalim
بِراضٍat all content وَلَكِنَّand yet المَناياdeath لَهاit has عُدَدinstruments
Nor is the Susi pulpit, with Ibn Salim's arse,
Content—but death has its instruments.
أَبانَhe let out ثَلاثاًthree [farts] يَومَthe day أَوفىhe climbed بِرَأسِهِto its top
فَقولاso say, you two لَهُto him أَسوَيتَyou broke wind ياO سَوأَةَdisgrace of الَبَلَدthe town
He let out three farts the day he climbed to its top;
So tell him, you two: 'You've broken wind, disgrace of the town!'
كَأَنَّas though أَميراًan emir قَدindeed سَطاpounced بِاِبنِupon the son of سالِمٍSalim
فَقولاso say, you two لِمَصّانِto the cocksucker اِمسَحwipe اِستَكَyour arse وَاِنجَرِدand strip naked
As though an emir had set upon Ibn Salim—
So tell the cocksucker, you two: 'Wipe your arse and strip naked!'
