وَكَأَنَّ الزِقَّ مَملوءاً إِذا

وَكَأَنَّ الزِقَّ مَملوءاً إِذا

ما بَطَحنا الزِقَّ زِنجِيٌّ سَرَق

ما بَطَحنا الزِقَّ زِنجِيٌّ سَرَق

And the full wineskin seems, when

we lay the wineskin flat, like a Zanj man who stole,

شُدَّ بِالحَبلِ وَلَقّوا فَضلَهُ

شُدَّ بِالحَبلِ وَلَقّوا فَضلَهُ

فَوقَ أَعلى حَلقِهِ حَتّى اِختَنَق

فَوقَ أَعلى حَلقِهِ حَتّى اِختَنَق

bound with a rope, and they twisted its slack

above the top of his throat until he suffocated.
