لِخَدَّيكَfor your cheeks مِنfrom كَفيَّكَyour two palms فيin كُلِّevery لَيلَةٍnight
لِخَدَّيكَ مِن كَفيَّكَ في كُلِّ لَيلَةٍ
إِلىuntil أَنthat تَرىyou see وَجهَthe face الصَباحِthe morning وِسادُa pillow
إِلى أَن تَرى وَجهَ الصَباحِ وِسادُ
Each night, your palms serve your cheeks—
For your cheeks my palms do every night
Until you see the face of morning—as a pillow.
Keep vigil till the face of dawn they spy
تَبيتُyou spend the night تُراعيyou watch اللَيلَthe night تَرجوyou hope for نَفادَهُits end
تَبيتُ تُراعي اللَيلَ تَرجو نَفادَهُ
وَليَسَand there is no لِلَيلِfor the night of العاشِقينَthe lovers نَفادُend
وَليَسَ لِلَيلِ العاشِقينَ نَفادُ
You spend the night watching the night, hoping for its end,
All through the darkness yearning for the light
And the lovers’ night has no end.
Yet nights, to those in love, will never die
