ماذاwhat مُنيتُI have been afflicted بَغَزّالٍwith Ghazzāl (the spinner) لَهُhe has عُنُقٌa neck
ماذا مُنيتُ بَغَزّالٍ لَهُ عُنُقٌ
كَنِقنِقِlike a male ostrich الدَوِّof the desert إِنwhether وَلّىhe turns away وَإِنand whether مَثَلاhe stands erect
كَنِقنِقِ الدَوِّ إِن وَلّى وَإِن مَثَلا
What a trial I have in Ghazzāl, whose neck
is like a desert ostrich’s, whether he turns away or stands erect.
