قَدindeed تَخَلَّلتَyou have permeated مَسلَكَthe pathway of الروحِthe soul مِنّيwithin me
قَد تَخَلَّلتَ مَسلَكَ الروحِ مِنّي
وَلِذاand for this reason سُمِّيَwas called الخَليلُthe intimate friend خَليلاan intimate
وَلِذا سُمِّيَ الخَليلُ خَليلا
Indeed, you have permeated the soul’s pathway within me.
And that is why a close friend is called an intimate.
فَإِذاso when ماemphatic particle نَطَقتُI speak كُنتَyou are حَديثيmy speech
فَإِذا ما نَطَقتُ كُنتَ حَديثي
وإِذاand when ماemphatic particle سَكَتُّI fall silent كُنتَyou are الغَليلاthe burning longing
وإِذا ما سَكَتُّ كُنتَ الغَليلا
So whenever I speak, you are my subject.
And whenever I fall silent, you are my burning longing.
