وَخَريدَةٍand a maiden سودٍblack ذَوائِبُهاher tresses
وَخَريدَةٍ سودٍ ذَوائِبُها
قَدalready ضُمِّخَتshe was anointed بِالمسكِwith musk وَالوَرسِand wars (a fragrant yellow dye)
قَد ضُمِّخَت بِالمسكِ وَالوَرسِ
And a maiden, her flowing tresses black,
And a maiden whose tresses are black,
had been richly perfumed with musk and fragrant wars-dye;
Already anointed with musk and wars,
أَقبَلنَthey (women) came فيin رَأدِthe early part الضَحاءِof the forenoon بِهاwith her
أَقبَلنَ في رَأدِ الضَحاءِ بِها
فَسَتَرنَthen they (women) veiled عَينَthe eye الشَمسِof the sun بِالشَمسِwith the sun
فَسَتَرنَ عَينَ الشَمسِ بِالشَمسِ
They came with her in the cool of morning,
They came with her in the early forenoon,
and veiled the sun’s eye with a sun.
Then veiled the sun’s eye with the sun.
