إِنif يَحسُدونيthey envy me فَإِنّيthen indeed I غَيرُnot لائِمِهِمblaming them
قَبليbefore me مِنَamong الناسِpeople أَهلُthose possessing الفَضلِmerit قَدindeed حُسِدواthey were envied
As for those who envy me, I do not blame them;
If they envy me, I do not blame them;
before me, men of merit among mankind were envied.
Before me, those of merit among mankind were indeed envied.
فَدامَso may it endure ليfor me وَلَهُمand for them ماwhat بيis in me وَماand what بِهِمُis in them
وَماتَand may he die أَكثَرُناthe most ... among us غَيظاًin rage بِماfrom what يَجِدُhe feels
So may what is in me and what is in them endure—mine for me, theirs for them;
So may what is in me and what is in them endure for me and for them;
and may whichever of us is more enraged die of what he feels.
And may the most enraged among us die of what he feels.
أَناI الَّذيthe one whom وَجَدونيthey found me فيin حُلوقِهِمُtheir throats
لاnot أَرتَقيI rise صَعَداًupward مِنهاout of them وَأُزدَرَدُand I am swallowed
I am the one they have found lodged in their throats,
I am the one they found in their throats:
neither rising out of them nor being swallowed down.
I do not rise upward out of them, nor am I swallowed.
وَماand not أُؤَمِّلُI hope for مِنof أَمرٍa matter يَسوؤُهُمُthat distresses them
إِلّاexcept وَعِنديand I have لَهُمfor them مِنof مِثلِهِits like مَدَدُa further supply
There is nothing I hope to achieve that vexes them
And I hope for nothing that would distress them
but I have more of its kind in reserve for them.
Without having more of its like in reserve for them.
