يا عَبدَ هَل لِلِّقاءِ مِن سَبَبِ

يا عَبدَ هَل لِلِّقاءِ مِن سَبَبِ

أَو لا فَأَدعو بِالوَيلِ وَالحَرَبِ

أَو لا فَأَدعو بِالوَيلِ وَالحَرَبِ

O ʿAbd, is there any reason for your absence?

O Abd, is there any way to meet?

Or is there none? Then I shall call down woe and war.

Or not? Then I cry, 'Woe and ruin!'
