وَعَيَّرَنيand taunted me الأَعداءُthe enemies وَالعَيبُand the fault فيهِمُin them
وَلَيسَand it is not بِعارٍa disgrace أَنto يُقالَbe called ضَريرُblind
And the enemies taunted me, though the fault lies in them.
The enemies reproached me, while the fault was theirs,
And it is no disgrace to be called blind.
It is no disgrace if one is called blind,
إِذاwhen أَبصَرَsees المَرءُthe man المُروءَةَnobility of character وَالتُقىand piety
فَإِنَّthen indeed عَمىblindness العَينَينِboth eyes لَيسَdoes not يَضيرُharm
When a man sees nobility of character and piety,
If one can see honor and piety,
then surely blindness of both eyes does no harm.
For blindness of the eyes cannot cause harm,
رَأَيتُI saw العَمىblindness أَجراًa reward وَذُخراًand a treasure وَعِصمَةًand a safeguard
وَإِنّيand indeed I إِلىof تِلكَthose الثَلاثِthe three فَقيرُin need
I saw blindness as a reward, a treasure, and a safeguard,
I found blindness as reward, provision and protection,
and indeed I am in need of those three.
And I am in need of those three things.
