وَمِثلِكَand one like you قَدindeed سَيَّرتُهُI sent him traveling بِقَصيدَةٍwith a poem
فَسارَso he traveled وَلَمand did not يَبرَحleave عِراصَcourtyards المَنازِلِthe dwellings
And one like you I have sent traveling with a poem;
And one like you I sent forth with a poem
So he traveled, yet never left the courtyards of the dwellings.
So he went and did not cease from stage to stage.
رَمَيتُI hurled بِهِwith him شَرقاًeastward وَغَرباًand westward فَأَصبَحَتso it became

I hurled him eastward and westward, so that
I aimed him east and west, and he became
The earth became full of him, among dwellers and travelers.
The lands filled full of settled folk and rovers.
