قالواthey said العَمىblindness مَنظَرٌa sight قَبيحٌugly
قالوا العَمى مَنظَرٌ قَبيحٌ
قُلناwe said بِفَقديthrough my loss لَكُمof you يَهونُit becomes easier to bear
قُلنا بِفَقدي لَكُم يَهونُ
They said, “Blindness is an ugly sight.”
We said, “Not seeing you makes it easier to bear.”
تَاللَهِby God ماnot فيin البِلادِthe land شَيءٌanything
تَاللَهِ ما في البِلادِ شَيءٌ
تَأَسىgrieve عَلىover فَقدِهِits loss العُيونُthe eyes
تَأَسى عَلى فَقدِهِ العُيونُ
By God, there is nothing in the land
whose loss the eyes would mourn.
