فَضَحَتshe disgraced جودَهاher generosity بِطولِthrough the length of مِطالٍdelay
فَضَحَت جودَها بِطولِ مِطالٍ
حالَفَتهُshe allied herself with it وَآفَةُand the bane of الجودِgenerosity مَطلُdelay
حالَفَتهُ وَآفَةُ الجودِ مَطلُ
She has shamed her generosity by making me wait so long;
She disgraced her generosity with prolonged delay,
she has allied herself with its bane—for delay is generosity’s scourge.
which she embraced—and delay is generosity’s bane.
هِيَshe فيin قَلبِهِhis heart وَبيَنَand between يَدَيهِhis two hands
هِيَ في قَلبِهِ وَبيَنَ يَدَيهِ
وَمَعَand with النَجمِthe stars بَذلُهاher giving كَيفَhow يَسلوhe forgets
وَمَعَ النَجمِ بَذلُها كَيفَ يَسلو
She is in his heart and right before him,
She is in his heart and before him,
yet her giving is up among the stars—how can he find solace?
yet her giving is with the stars—how can he forget her?
