أَظُنُّI think سَعيداًSa'id كائِناًbeing لِصَديقِهِto his friend
أَظُنُّ سَعيداً كائِناً لِصَديقِهِ
كَداحِسِlike Dahis عَبسٍ'Abs أَوor كَبَكرِlike a young male camel ثَمودِThamud
كَداحِسِ عَبسٍ أَو كَبَكرِ ثَمودِ
I think Sa'id is to his friend
like Dahis of 'Abs, or like the young camel of Thamud.
وَماand ... not اِبنُson of زُرَيقٍZurayq مُقصِرٌstopping short دونَshort of ضَربَةٍa blow
وَما اِبنُ زُرَيقٍ مُقصِرٌ دونَ ضَربَةٍ
عَلىon أَنفِهِhis nose مِنfrom ضامِنٍone who guarantees لِمَزيدِfor more
عَلى أَنفِهِ مِن ضامِنٍ لِمَزيدِ
Nor will Ibn Zurayq desist until he takes a blow
to his nose from one who guarantees more.
أَمِنis it because of حَمَلٍa lamb عِندَat the home of اِبنِson of نِهياNihya أَكَلتَهُyou ate it
أَمِن حَمَلٍ عِندَ اِبنِ نِهيا أَكَلتَهُ
مِنَfrom آلِthe family of المُثَنّىal-Muthanna أَوor مِنَfrom آلِthe family of يَزيدِYazid
مِنَ آلِ المُثَنّى أَو مِنَ آلِ يَزيدِ
Is it for a lamb you ate at Ibn Nihya's,
from the house of al-Muthanna or from the house of Yazid,
تَحوطُyou protect اِبنَson of نِهياNihya ياO سَعيدُSa'id كَأَنَّماas though
تَحوطُ اِبنَ نِهيا يا سَعيدُ كَأَنَّما
تَحوطُyou protect اِمرَأًa man قَدalready ناكَfucked أُمَّthe mother of سَعيدِSa'id
تَحوطُ اِمرَأً قَد ناكَ أُمَّ سَعيدِ
that you protect Ibn Nihya, O Sa'id, as though
protecting a man who has fucked Sa'id's mother?
