أَخالِدُ لَم أَخبِط إِلَيكَ بِنِعمَةٍ

أَخالِدُ لَم أَخبِط إِلَيكَ بِنِعمَةٍ

سِوى أَنَّني عافٍ وَأَنتَ جَوادُ

سِوى أَنَّني عافٍ وَأَنتَ جَوادُ

O Khalid, I have not appealed to you on the strength of a favor,

O Khaled, I have not approached you with any blessing

save that I am a petitioner and you are generous.

Except that I am well and you are generous

فَإِن تُعطِني أُفرِغ إِلَيكَ مَحامِدي

فَإِن تُعطِني أُفرِغ إِلَيكَ مَحامِدي

وَإِن تَأبَ لا يُضرَب عَلَيكَ سِدادُ

وَإِن تَأبَ لا يُضرَب عَلَيكَ سِدادُ

So if you give me, I will pour out my praises to you;

So if you give to me I will pour out my praises to you

and if you refuse, no barrier will be raised against you.

And if you refuse no barrier can be set against you

رِكابي عَلى حَرفٍ وَقَلبي مُشَيَّعٌ

رِكابي عَلى حَرفٍ وَقَلبي مُشَيَّعٌ

وَغَيرُ بِلادِ الباخِلينَ بِلادُ

وَغَيرُ بِلادِ الباخِلينَ بِلادُ

My riding camels stand poised on the brink, and my heart is bold,

My mount is on the verge and my heart bids farewell

and there are lands beyond the lands of misers.

To the land of the misers is not a land

إِذا أَنكَرَتني بَلدَةٌ أَو نَكَرتُها

إِذا أَنكَرَتني بَلدَةٌ أَو نَكَرتُها

نَهَضتُ مَعَ البازي عَلَيَّ سَوادُ

نَهَضتُ مَعَ البازي عَلَيَّ سَوادُ

If a town disowns me, or I disown it,

If a city denies me or I deny it

I rise with the hawk, cloaked in darkness.

I move on with the one who leaves me in the dark

أَخالِدُ بَينَ الأَجرِ وَالحَمدِ حاجَتي

أَخالِدُ بَينَ الأَجرِ وَالحَمدِ حاجَتي

فَأَيُّهُما تَأتي فَأَنتَ عِمادُ

فَأَيُّهُما تَأتي فَأَنتَ عِمادُ

O Khalid, my request lies between reward and praise;

O Khaled between reward and praise is my need

so whichever you pursue, you are a pillar of support.

So whichever comes to me, you are its pillar

وَما خابَ بَينَ الأَجرِ وَالحَمدِ عامِلٌ

وَما خابَ بَينَ الأَجرِ وَالحَمدِ عامِلٌ

لَهُ مِنهُما عِندَ العَواقِبِ زادُ

لَهُ مِنهُما عِندَ العَواقِبِ زادُ

And no one striving between reward and praise has failed

No worker loses between reward and praise

who has provisions from both in the end.

For him from both at the end is provision

أَخالِدُ ناهِزها فَإِنَّ سَماعَها

أَخالِدُ ناهِزها فَإِنَّ سَماعَها

جَميلٌ وَمَأتاها تُقىً وَسَدادُ

جَميلٌ وَمَأتاها تُقىً وَسَدادُ

O Khalid, seize it, for hearing of it

O Khaled, reproach it, for listening to it is beautiful

is beautiful, and fulfilling it is piety and right conduct.

And its consequence is piety and integrity
