وَقَفتُand I stood وَقَدand already فَقَدتُI lost الصَبرَpatience حَتّىuntil
وَقَفتُ وَقَد فَقَدتُ الصَبرَ حَتّى
تَبَيَّنَdiscerned مَوقِفيmy stopping-place أَنّيthat I الفَقيدُthe lost one
تَبَيَّنَ مَوقِفي أَنّي الفَقيدُ
And I stood, having lost patience, until
I stood, having lost all patience, until
my stopping-place discerned that I was the lost one.
My stance made clear that I was the bereaved one,
وَشُكِّكَand were made uncertain فِيَّabout me عُذّاليmy reproachers فَقالواso they said
وَشُكِّكَ فِيَّ عُذّالي فَقالوا
لِرَسمِto the traces of الدارِthe dwelling أَيُّكُماwhich of you two العَميدُthe grief-stricken one
لِرَسمِ الدارِ أَيُّكُما العَميدُ
And my reproachers were made uncertain about me, so they said
And those who blamed me doubted and asked:
to the dwelling’s traces, “Which of you two is grief-stricken?”
“Who owns this house, which of you leads?”
