وَلَمand have not يَرقَceased دَمعيmy tears بَعدَafter بُعدِهِمُtheir departure وَجداout of yearning
I sighed with longing whenever they mentioned Najd.
I breathe longing whenever they mention Najd
And my tears have not ceased since their departure, out of yearning.
And my tears haven’t flowed since after their absence
إِذاwhen جَمَعَcombines الإِنسانُa person رَأياًjudgment وَنَجدَةًand courage
وَنَفساًand a soul عَزوفاًself-denying سادَhe became a leader وَاِحتَقَبَand he carried off المَجداglory
When a person combines judgment and courage
If a man combines wisdom, valor,
with a self-denying soul, he becomes a leader and carries off glory.
And a lofty spirit, he will lead and grasp glory
وَرُبَّand many a اِمرِئٍman يُكفىis spared قِتالَfighting عَدُوِّهِhis enemy
بِآرائِهِthrough his counsels وَالسَيفُand the sword ماnot فارَقَleft الغِمداthe sheath
And many a man is spared fighting his enemy
And how often a man defeats his enemy
through his counsels, while the sword has not left its sheath.
With his views, while the sword hasn’t left its sheath
فَمازِلتَso you have continued فيin رَأيٍjudgment تَحوزُyou gain بِهِthrough it العُلاeminence
وَلازِلتَand you have continued عَنfrom عَقلٍreason تَشيدُyou build بِهِthrough it مَجداglory
So you have never ceased to exercise judgment by which you gain eminence,
So you have held onto an opinion with which you’ve attained nobility
and never ceased, guided by reason, to build glory through it.
And you’ve always had a reason with which you’ve built glory
