تَبوحُyou divulge بِسِرِّكَyour secret ضيقاًout of distress بِهِover it
وَتَبغيand you seek لِسِرِّكَfor your secret مَنsomeone who يَكتُمُconceals
You divulge your secret, burdened by it,
You confide your secret though it troubles you,
And seek someone to keep your secret.
And seek for your secret one who will keep it hidden.
وَكِتمانُكَand your concealing السِرَّthe secret عَمّنfrom those whom تَخافُyou fear
وَمَنand whoever لاnot تَخَوَّفُهُyou fear him أَحزَمُmore prudent
And concealing your secret from those you fear
Yet keeping your secret from those you fear
And those you do not fear is more prudent.
Is wiser than one whom you do not suspect.
إِذاif ضاعَis leaked سِرُّكَyour secret مِنthrough مُخبِرٍan informer
فَأَنتَthen you إِذاif لُمتَهُyou reproach him أَلوَمُmore blameworthy
If your secret is leaked by someone who tells it,
If your secret is lost through one you told it to,
Then, if you reproach him, you are more to blame.
You, not he, will be the one blamed.
