فَمَجدٌso glory لَهُfor him مُستَطرَفٌnewly acquired وَأَصيلُand ancestral
In his conduct, Khalid followed Barmak's example.
Khalid was exemplary in his deeds, following the example of Barmack,
So his glory is both newly won and ancestral.
So glory to him, splendid and innate,
وَكانَand used to be ذَووthose with الآمالِhopes يُدعَونَcalled قَبلَهُbefore him
بِلَفظٍby a term عَلىof الإِعدامِdestitution فيهِin it دَليلُan indication
And before him, those with hopes were called
And those who aspire were called before him
By a term that itself signaled destitution.
With words implying their demise contained a sign,
يُسَمَّونَthey were called بِالسُؤّالِas beggars فيin كُلِّevery مَوطِنٍplace
وَإِنand even if كانَwas فيهِمamong them نابِهٌa distinguished man وَجَليلُand an eminent man
They were called 'beggars' in every place,
They were named with a question wherever they settled,
Even if among them were distinguished and eminent men.
Even if among them was a noble elder,
فَسَمّاهُمُso he called them الزُوارَthe visitors سِتراًas a covering عَلَيهِمُover them
فَأَستارُهُso his veils فيamong المُهتَدينَthose who find their way سُدولُhanging down
So he called them 'visitors,' to give them cover;
So he named them visitors, covering over them,
Thus his veils hang down over those who find their way.
Thus his curtains over the guided are veils.
