ياO عَبدَʿAbd (name) بِاللَهِfor God's sake اِرحَميhave mercy عَبدَكِyour slave
يا عَبدَ بِاللَهِ اِرحَمي عَبدَكِ
وَعَلِّليهِand soothe him بِمُنىwith hopes وَعدِكِyour promise
وَعَلِّليهِ بِمُنى وَعدِكِ
O ʿAbd, for God's sake, have mercy on your slave.
O servant of Allah, have mercy on your servant
And soothe him with the hopes of your promise.
And fulfill for him your promise
يُصبِحُhe reaches morning مَكروباًdistressed وَيُمسيand reaches evening بِهِin it
يُصبِحُ مَكروباً وَيُمسي بِهِ
وَلَيسَand does not يَدريhe knows ماwhat لَهُfor him عِندَكِwith you
وَلَيسَ يَدري ما لَهُ عِندَكِ
He is distressed in the morning and remains so in the evening.
He wakes up distressed and sleeps the same
And he does not know where he stands with you.
