وَدَويَّةٍ خُلِقَت لِلسَراب

وَدَويَّةٍ خُلِقَت لِلسَراب

فَأَمواجُهُ بَينَها تَزخَرُ

فَأَمواجُهُ بَينَها تَزخَرُ

And a desert waste, created for the mirage,

so its waves surge within it.

تَرى جِنَّها بَينَ أَضعافِها

تَرى جِنَّها بَينَ أَضعافِها

حُلولاً كَأَنَّهُمُ البَربَرُ

حُلولاً كَأَنَّهُمُ البَربَرُ

You see its jinn amid its folds,

encamped, as though they were Berbers.

كَأَنَّ حَنيفَةَ تَحميهِم

كَأَنَّ حَنيفَةَ تَحميهِم

فَأَليَنُهُم خَشِنٌ أَزوَرُ

فَأَليَنُهُم خَشِنٌ أَزوَرُ

As though Hanifa were protecting them,

so even their mildest is rough and haughty.
