أَجلانtwo deaths مِنfrom صَدرٍwithdrawal وَمِنand from إيرادِadvance
A hero—at the tips of his sword and spearhead
A hero with his breastplate and sharp blades,
lie two deaths, in withdrawal and in advance.
More glorious than any breastplate or coats of mail,

Qasim inherited noble virtues and built them up
Al-Qasim inherited virtues and attained them,
with sword blades, spearheads, and fine steeds.
With metal plates, spears, and steeds,
ياO عِصمَةَbulwark of العَرَبِthe Arabs الَّتيwho لَوif لَمnot تَكُنyou were

O bulwark of the Arabs—if you were not
O pillar of the Arabs, without whom
alive, they would then be without a pillar.
They would have no pillar to lean on,
إِنَّindeed العُيونَthe eyes إِذاwhen رَأَتكَbehold you مِدادُهاtheir far-reaching ones

Indeed, when the far-reaching eyes behold you,
When eyes see you, their kohl
they draw back in awe, no longer keen.
Returns not out of mourning but of awe,
وَإِذاand when رَمَيتَyou assail الثَغرَthe frontier stronghold مِنكَfrom you بِعَزمَةٍwith firm resolve

And when you assail the frontier stronghold with your resolve,
And when you aim your mouth with determination
you throw open its barricaded positions.
You open in it places of obstruction,

And your spear seems steeped in safflower,
As though your spear soaked in saffron,
and your sword seems drawn from mulberries.
And your sword sheathed in scabbards,

If Abu Dulaf were to charge in anger against
If Abu Dulaf got angry at the white swords,
the gleaming swords, they would melt within their sheaths.
They would melt in their sheaths,

He kindled and set aglow, for enmity and hospitality,
He provoked and ignited for the enemies and towns,
two fires: a fire of blood and a fire struck from firesticks.
Two fires - a fire of blood and a fire of fuel.
