O eye, pour forth streaming tears
O eye, be generous with tears
For the valiant Yemeni emir,
For the noble Yemeni prince

For the world's young hero and its champion,
For the world's perfect youth
And the knight of the faith and the imam's sword.
The religion's horseman and leader's sword

Do not withhold tears for one who perished,
Do not spare tears for the perished one
Who orphaned all mankind when he died.
Who orphaned all when he passed away

Hulwan's soil grew sweet when it enclosed
The soil of Khuzestan was blessed
His bones—may those bones be blessed with rain!
As his bones nourished it with bones
أَغلَقَتِshut الخَيراتُblessings أَبوابَهاtheir doors

وَاِمتَنَعَتand became inaccessible بَعدَكَafter you ياO اِبنَson of الكِرامthe noble
Blessings have shut their doors
Good deeds locked their doors
And become inaccessible after you, O son of the noble.
And refused after you, O son of nobles

And your horses now, after hoof-soreness
And your horses after clashes
And campaigning, complain of the long rest you have left them.
Complain of long abstinence

Set out with us; let us draw near to Malik,
Take us to Malik's grave
So that we may greet his grave with peace.
That we may greet it with peace
كانَthere was لِأَهلِfor the people of الأَرضِthe earth فيin كَفِّهِhis palm
غِنىًindependence عَنِfrom البَحرِthe sea وَصَوبِand the downpour of الغَمامthe clouds
For the people of the earth, his palm held
People found in his palm
Enough to dispense with the sea and the clouds' downpour.
Wealth without sea or clouds

And at dawn he was like the midmorning sun,
In the dawn he was like the rising sun
And at night he was like the full moon in darkness.
In the night like the full moon

وَقَدand indeed رَآهُhe had seen him وَهوَwhile he was صَعبُhard المَرامto assail
And to many a questioner, amazed at his death,
A Questioner wonders at his death
Having seen him so hard to assail,
After seeing him adamant

I said: I remember him bearing his battle insignia,
I told him I knew him as a teacher
Striking them when the battle-dust rose.
Striking them when darkness rises high

And whoever contends long with war scarcely
One battling war will hardly
Escapes the stroke of a polished, keen sword.
Escape the blow of a polished sword

Time showed us no regard when it assailed
Fate did not favor us when
The people's springtime in every year.
It took the people's spring each year

They will never find relief from his loss,
They will never rest from missing him
As long as the doves' call awakens sorrow.
As the dove's call stirs sorrow
