قال لي العذال دع حبه

قال لي العذال دع حبه

ما فيه إلاّ شقوة أو أذى

ما فيه إلاّ شقوة أو أذى

The reproachers told me, “Give up loving him;

The blamer said to me, leave off loving -

There is nothing in it but misery or harm.”

In it is naught but wretchedness or harm.

فزاد ذا القول فؤادي أسىً

فزاد ذا القول فؤادي أسىً

ما ضرّ عذالي لو زال ذا

ما ضرّ عذالي لو زال ذا

So this saying increased my heart’s sorrow.

But this saying increased my heart's grief -

What harm would it do my reproachers if this ceased?

No harm if my blamer went away!
