قف بالطلول وسلها أين سلماهما

وروّ من جرع الأجفان جرعاها
Stop at the ruins and ask them where their Salma is.
Stand in the ruins and ask them where their dwellers are
And water their sandy ground with the eyelids' draughts.
And shed tears from the brims of the eyelids

And turn your gaze about the edges of their courtyard.
And return the glance to the outskirts of its field
And hope for reunion from the breezes of their far reaches.
And spread the fragrance of union from the aromas of its fragrances

So if the ruins' story escapes you,
If the ruins inform you of their news
Then do not let their sight and fragrance escape you.
Do not miss their mirror and their view

Abodes of excellence, whose soil rivals gold,
Lands of virtue boasting of pure soil is their ground
And a home of fellowship, whose pebbles resemble pearls.
And home of intimacy that mimics pearl is their pebbles

The neighbors who settled in its courtyard were assailed
Time has passed by their neighborhood and made them and it old
By time's vicissitudes, which wore them away and it as well.

Full moons, clothed by the clouds of death;
And the suns of virtue covered its land with clouds
Suns of excellence, veiled by clouds of earth.
Thus glory cries over it woefully grieving

والدين يندبها والفضل ينعاها
So glory weeps for them in anguish and sorrow,
And religion laments it and virtue wails for it
And faith laments them, and excellence mourns their passing.

However short it was, it was the sweetest
How brief its span was, and how sweet!

Times of fellowship we spent—never were they recalled
Would cut the heart of the young lover recalling it
Without their memory tearing the lover's heart apart.

May rain water our days at al-Khayf—may it water them!

And the firmest of learning's towering heights collapsed.

May you be clothed in the purest robes of divine favor.

Three: you are the most bountiful and the most abundant
You contained the most precious pearls
In generosity, the sweetest in taste and the clearest.
But your pearl is highest and most precious

Oh Greatest who tread the summit of glory with honor
But your pearls are the loftiest and most precious of them.
Who drank from the valley of Waseem its pure drink
