ذوpossessed of رقةtenderness وحنينand longing
ذو رقة وحنين
I am the poor, tormented one,
I am the pauper of meaning
Endowed with tenderness and longing.
With gentleness and yearning
للناسfor people طرّاًall of them خدومa devoted servant
للناس طرّاً خدوم
إذاwhenever همthey استخدمونيthey employ me
إذا هم استخدموني
I am a devoted servant to all people,
To people I'm polite and obliging
Whenever they employ me.
When they make use of me
يعلوrises مقاميmy standing قدراًin esteem
يعلو مقامي قدراً
إذاwhenever همthey لمسونيthey touch me
إذا هم لمسوني
My standing rises in esteem
My status rises high
Whenever they touch me.
When they lay hands on me
ولستand I do not أسلوcease to love هواهمlove for them
ولست أسلو هواهم
يوماfor a day ولوand even if قطّعونيthey cut me to pieces
يوما ولو قطّعوني
Nor do I cease loving them
And I do not bend to their desires
Even for a day, even if they cut me to pieces.
Even if they tear me apart
هذاthis ومنand among سوءbadness حظّيmy luck
هذا ومن سوء حظّي
وحسرتيand my sorrow وشجونيand my griefs
وحسرتي وشجوني
Such am I; and part of my ill fortune,
And yet, such is my misfortune
My sorrow and my griefs,
My regrets and lamentations
أنthat لستI am not أذكرremembered إلاّexcept
أن لست أذكر إلاّ
عقيبjust after رفعclearing away الصحونthe dishes
عقيب رفع الصحون
Is that I am remembered only
That I'm remembered only
Just after the dishes are cleared.
