ما قول هندٍ إذا ما صدها القدر
جهراًopenly وبالرغمand in spite عنهاof her لألأglittered القمرthe moon
جهراً وبالرغم عنها لألأ القمر
What will Hind say when fate repels her
What can India say when fate opposes it
openly, and the moon glitters against her will?
Openly and the moon eclipses against its will?
أهندdoes Hind...? تزعمclaims أنthat اللَهGod يخذلforsakes منthe one who
أهند تزعم أن اللَه يخذل من
بهthrough Him عنinstead of الناسpeople فيamid الأهوالterrors ينتصرseeks victory
به عن الناس في الأهوال ينتصر
Does Hind claim that God forsakes the one
Does India claim that God forsakes those
who seeks victory through Him, instead of people, amid terrors?
Who triumph over people through ordeals?
كلاno لقدindeed خَسَأَwas abased القومُthe people الذينwho علىagainst
كلا لقد خَسَأَ القومُ الذين على
عِصابَةِthe band of الحقِّtruth مِنهُمfrom them ثارَتِrose الغيرُjealous passions
عِصابَةِ الحقِّ مِنهُم ثارَتِ الغيرُ
No! Abased indeed are those people who, against
No! The people who rebelled against
the band of truth, rose in jealous fury.
The coalition of truth have erred
سَتَظهَرُwill appear اليومَtoday آياتثsigns (likely intended) القديرِthe Almighty وفيand in
سَتَظهَرُ اليومَ آياتث القديرِ وفي
بُحبوحِthe heart of أَمنِthe security of الأَعاديthe enemies يَبرُزُemerges الخَطَرُdanger
بُحبوحِ أَمنِ الأَعادي يَبرُزُ الخَطَرُ
The Almighty's signs will appear today, and in
Today the signs of the Almighty will appear and amidst
the very heart of the enemies' security, danger emerges.
The security of enemies, danger will emerge
يَموتُdies قائِمُهُمtheir leader بِالذُّلِّin humiliation مُنطَمِساًblotted out
يَموتُ قائِمُهُم بِالذُّلِّ مُنطَمِساً
والسيلُand the torrent فيهمamong them مِنَof الأَكدارِtroubles يَنحَدِرُdescends
والسيلُ فيهم مِنَ الأَكدارِ يَنحَدِرُ
Their leader dies in humiliation, blotted out,
Their leader will die in disgrace, annihilated
and a torrent of troubles pours down among them.
And a torrent of filth will flow among them
تَنحَطُّsinks low ثورتُهُمtheir uprising والسَهمُand the arrow يَخدِشُهُمgrazes them
تَنحَطُّ ثورتُهُم والسَهمُ يَخدِشُهُم
مِنfrom كلِّevery وجهٍside فَهُمso they ماتواdied وماand did not شَعَرواnotice
مِن كلِّ وجهٍ فَهُم ماتوا وما شَعَروا
Their uprising sinks low, and the arrow grazes them
Their revolution will collapse and arrows will wound them
from every side; they have died without noticing.
From all sides, so they die without realizing
تَبدوappear شُئونaffairs منضfrom (likely intended) الغيبِthe unseen المطَلسَمِtalisman-shrouded عَنconcerning
تَبدو شُئون منض الغيبِ المطَلسَمِ عَن
أَمرٍa matter جَليلٍmomentous بهاthrough them الأَعلامُthe eminent figures تعتبرُtake heed
أَمرٍ جَليلٍ بها الأَعلامُ تعتبرُ
Affairs emerge from the talisman-shrouded unseen, concerning
The affairs of the unseen world, veiled from
a momentous matter; through them the eminent take heed.
A momentous matter, will become clear through signs
مَدواthey directed لناtoward us بَصَراًa gaze رامواthey sought بِهِwith it أَثراًa trace
مَدوا لنا بَصَراً راموا بِهِ أَثراً
تَبّاًruin لَهُمupon them قَدindeed عَمواthey went blind فليرجِعso let it return البصَرُthe gaze
تَبّاً لَهُم قَد عَموا فليرجِع البصَرُ
They directed their gaze toward us, seeking a trace through it.
They aimed their sights at us, wanting to hit their mark
Ruin upon them! They have gone blind; let the gaze turn back.
Woe to them! They are blind, so let sight return
شاهَتmay they be disfigured وجوهٌfaces لَهُمof theirs والحفنَةُand the handful انفَلَتَتslipped free
شاهَت وجوهٌ لَهُم والحفنَةُ انفَلَتَت
ياO غارَةَonslaught of اللهِGod أَينَwhere العينُthe actual presence والأَثَرُand the trace
يا غارَةَ اللهِ أَينَ العينُ والأَثَرُ
May their faces be disfigured! The handful has slipped free.
Faces have frowned at them and the handful slipped
O God's onslaught, where is their very presence, and where their trace?
O God's punishment, where are the eyes and the trace?
ياO غارةَonslaught of اللهِGod رُديهُمdrive them back! علىwith عَجَلٍhaste
يا غارةَ اللهِ رُديهُم على عَجَلٍ
بالخزيِwith disgrace والذُّلِand humiliation فالبرهانِfor the proof مُنتَظَرُawaited
بالخزيِ والذُّلِ فالبرهانِ مُنتَظَرُ
O God's onslaught, drive them back in haste
O God's punishment, return them swiftly
with disgrace and humiliation, for the proof is awaited.
In shame and humiliation, for proof is awaited
اللهُGod أَكبَرُis greatest سيفُthe sword of الغيبِthe unseen جندَلَهمfelled them
اللهُ أَكبَرُ سيفُ الغيبِ جندَلَهم
وand كُلَّماwhenever كَبرواthey grew great فيin زَعمشهمtheir estimation (likely intended) صَغرواthey grew small
و كُلَّما كَبروا في زَعمشهم صَغروا
God is greatest! The sword of the unseen has felled them,
God is Great! The sword of the unseen shredded them
and whenever they grew great in their own estimation, they grew small.
And the more they grew in their claim, the smaller they became
أَينَwhere الإِشارةُthe sign ياO روحَspirit of الرسولِthe Messenger الأَcome! (uncertain text)
أَينَ الإِشارةُ يا روحَ الرسولِ الأَ
ثوريrise! بِنَصرٍwith victory وand غاريraid! فالعدىfor the foes غَدَرواacted treacherously
ثوري بِنَصرٍ و غاري فالعدى غَدَروا
Where is the sign, O spirit of the Messenger? [Come,]
Where is the gesture, O soul of the revolutionary Prophet
rise with victory and raid, for the foes have acted treacherously.
To aid and raid, for the enemy has betrayed?
وياand O كتائِبَbattalions of حزبِthe party of اللهِGod عَنِmoved by شيمٍvirtues
ويا كتائِبَ حزبِ اللهِ عَنِ شيمٍ
شَماءَlofty قوميrise! ليلوىso it may be thwarted كيدُthe scheming of مَنthose who فَجَّرواwrought wickedness
شَماءَ قومي ليلوى كيدُ مَن فَجَّروا
And, O battalions of God's party, moved by virtues
And O battalions of the Party of God, with glorious
lofty and proud, rise to thwart the plots of those who wrought wickedness.
Traditions, awake and regret the deeds of those who exploded
ياO دَولَةَrealm of الغيبِthe unseen ياO أَهَلَpeople of الرسالَةِthe message ياO
يا دَولَةَ الغيبِ يا أَهَلَ الرسالَةِ يا
اَهلَpeople of النبوةِprophethood ياO اهلَpeople of الوحاrevelation (likely intended) انتَصرواprevail!
اَهلَ النبوةِ يا اهلَ الوحا انتَصروا
O realm of the unseen, O people of the message, O
O unseen state, O people of the message, O people
people of prophethood, O people of revelation, prevail!
Of prophecy, O people of revelation, be victorious
ياO اهلpeople of بَدرٍBadr وand ياO اهلَpeople of المهارِكِbattles (likely intended) فيin
يا اهل بَدرٍ و يا اهلَ المهارِكِ في
لَيلِthe night of المعامِعِbattle tumult هذاthis الحربُwar فاتَّحِدواso unite!
لَيلِ المعامِعِ هذا الحربُ فاتَّحِدوا
O people of Badr, and O people of battles, in
O people of Badr, and O people of great feats, in
the night of battle tumult—this is war, so unite!
The night of tribulations, unite in this war
سَلواdraw! سُيوفاًswords لَكُمof yours فيin the cause of اللهِGod عادَتُهاtheir custom
سَلوا سُيوفاً لَكُم في اللهِ عادَتُها
فَتكٌslaughter عَظيمٌmighty بِهِto it قَدindeed تَشهَدُbear witness السورُthe Qur'anic chapters
فَتكٌ عَظيمٌ بِهِ قَد تَشهَدُ السورُ
Draw your swords, whose custom in God's cause
Ask for swords for yourselves, ordained by God
is mighty slaughter, to which the surahs indeed bear witness.
With great havoc, so the chapters bear witness
وصيَّرواand make! القومَthe people صَرعىslain لاno بَقاءَsurvival لَهُمfor them
وصيَّروا القومَ صَرعى لا بَقاءَ لَهُم
دماؤُهُمtheir blood تَحتَbeneath حَدِّthe edge of البيضِthe white swords يَنهَمِرُpours forth
دماؤُهُم تَحتَ حَدِّ البيضِ يَنهَمِرُ
And lay the people slain, with no survival for them;
And make the people fallen, with no survival,
their blood pours beneath the edge of the white blades.
Their blood flows under the white blades
ياO حَيرَةًbewilderment تَجعَلُmakes الأفكارَthe thoughts حائِرَةًbewildered
يا حَيرَةً تَجعَلُ الأفكارَ حائِرَةً
مِنَof الأَعاديthe enemies ويَعمىand goes blind مِنهُمُamong them النَظَرُsight
مِنَ الأَعادي ويَعمى مِنهُمُ النَظَرُ
O bewilderment that bewilders the thoughts
Oh what confusion that makes thoughts confused
of the enemies and blinds their sight!
By the enemies, and their vision is blinded
جَولَةَsurge of المَدَدِthe aid القُدسِيholy اَيَany يَدٍhand
جَولَةَ المَدَدِ القُدسِي اَيَ يَدٍ
مُديextend! لِيُحرِقَso it may burn كُلَّevery الصائِلِassailant الشَرَرُsparks
مُدي لِيُحرِقَ كُلَّ الصائِلِ الشَرَرُ
O surge of holy aid, a hand—any hand—
The round of heavenly aid - which hand
stretch it forth, so that sparks may burn every assailant.
Will extend to burn all the evil sparks?
مُحَمَّداهُO Muhammad! أَغِثgive succor! مِنfrom رَحبِthe spaciousness of قَبرِكَyour grave ياO
مُحَمَّداهُ أَغِث مِن رَحبِ قَبرِكَ يا
غَوثَsuccor of البرياتِcreated beings إِنif حارَتgrew bewildered بِهاamong them الفكرُthoughts
غَوثَ البرياتِ إِن حارَت بِها الفكرُ
O Muhammad! Give succor from your spacious grave, O
Muhammad, aid from your spacious grave, O
succor of created beings, if thought grows bewildered among them!
Succor of mankind, if thoughts have gone astray
وَابعَثand send forth! عَزائِمَresolves عَزمٍdetermination مِنكَfrom you قاضِيَةًannihilating
وَابعَث عَزائِمَ عَزمٍ مِنكَ قاضِيَةً
عَلىagainst الأَعاديthe enemies فلاso no يَبقىremains لَهاof them أَثَرُtrace
عَلى الأَعادي فلا يَبقى لَها أَثَرُ
And send forth your steadfast resolves, annihilating
And send resolute determination from you to conquer
the enemies, so that no trace of them remains.
The enemies, so no trace of them remains
غَوائِرُdepths of الغَيبِthe unseen ثارَتhave risen فارقُبواso watch! عَلَناًopenly
غَوائِرُ الغَيبِ ثارَت فارقُبوا عَلَناً
ياO قومَناour people السِرَّthe secret نِعمَexcellent are الخُبرُthe insight والخَبرُand the news
يا قومَنا السِرَّ نِعمَ الخُبرُ والخَبرُ
The depths of the unseen have risen; watch openly,
The mysteries of the unseen have awakened, so openly
O our people, the secret—how excellent the insight and the news!
Observe, O our people, the secret - excellent is the news
تَرومُseeks هِندٌHind وقَدand already شَطَّhas grown distant المزارُthe place of visitation بِهاfor her
تَرومُ هِندٌ وقَد شَطَّ المزارُ بِها
إِذلالَناour humiliation تَعِسَتmay she be wretched ياoh! بَئسَhow evil ماwhat تَزرُshe bears as a burden
إِذلالَنا تَعِسَت يا بَئسَ ما تَزرُ
Hind seeks, though the place of visitation has grown distant for her,
India intends, as misfortune has whipped it,
to humiliate us—may she be wretched! What an evil burden she bears!
To humiliate us. Wretched is what it sows.
يَصُدُّهاrepels her قَدَرُthe decree of الباريthe Creator وand يَدفَعُهاdrives her back
يَصُدُّها قَدَرُ الباري و يَدفَعُها
حَتىuntil تَذوبَshe melts وand تَغدواbecomes دارَهاher dwelling سَقَرُSaqar (Hell)
حَتى تَذوبَ و تَغدوا دارَها سَقَرُ
The Creator's decree repels her and drives her back,
The will of the Creator thwarts it and repels it
until she melts away and Saqar becomes her dwelling.
Until it melts, and its home becomes Hellfire
تَشُبُّflares فيin البِيدِthe deserts نارٌa fire لاno دِفاعَdefense لَهاagainst it
تَشُبُّ في البِيدِ نارٌ لا دِفاعَ لَها
تَعلوrises فَيُطفِئُهاthen quenches it بالرَّمشَةِin a blink المَطَرُthe rain
تَعلو فَيُطفِئُها بالرَّمشَةِ المَطَرُ
A fire flares in the deserts, with no defense against it;
A fire, with no defense, kindles in ruin
it rises, then rain quenches it in the blink of an eye.
It rises but the sprinkling rain will extinguish it
