قمنا لنساوت النبي مثالا

ولقد ملأنا الخافقين جمالا

ولقد ملأنا الخافقين جمالا

We stood as a likeness of the Prophet’s human nature;

We arose to emulate the example of the Prophet

and indeed we filled the two horizons with beauty.

And we certainly filled the horizons with beauty

وبدت لنا آيات قدسٍ أبرزت

وبدت لنا آيات قدسٍ أبرزت

عن طور طه في الورى منوالا

عن طور طه في الورى منوالا

And signs of holiness appeared to us, revealing

And the signs of sacredness were revealed to us

from Taha’s spiritual station a pattern among humankind.

From Mount Tur a model was made apparent in the world

ولنا الأيادي البيض والسرٌّ الذي

ولنا الأيادي البيض والسرٌّ الذي

يعلو إلى الباري القديم تعالى

يعلو إلى الباري القديم تعالى

And ours are white hands of generosity, and the secret that

And we have the white hands and the secret that

rises to the eternal Creator—exalted is He.

Ascends to the Ancient, the Most High

ولنا من الشرف المطهَّر رونقٌ

ولنا من الشرف المطهَّر رونقٌ

أبدى لباصرة الوجود جلالا

أبدى لباصرة الوجود جلالا

And ours, from purified nobility, is a radiance

And we have the purified noble grace

that revealed majesty to the eye of existence.

That showed the beholders of existence majesty

مددٌ ترقرق طوره بمعارف

مددٌ ترقرق طوره بمعارف

نسجت بمرطِ شؤنها أحوالا

نسجت بمرطِ شؤنها أحوالا

A spiritual influx, its realm rippling with insights

Help extended, its mount glistening with knowledges

that wove spiritual states into the mantle of their workings.

That wove with the thread of its conditions, states

وحقائقٌ نبويَّةٌ علويَّةٌ

وحقائقٌ نبويَّةٌ علويَّةٌ

صفَّت بساحات الجلال رجالا

صفَّت بساحات الجلال رجالا

And prophetic, Alid realities

And Prophetic, Alid truths

arrayed men in the courts of majesty.

That lined the courtyards of majesty with men

جلت الخوارق في الوجود فأصبحت

جلت الخوارق في الوجود فأصبحت

عن شيخِ واسط تنقل الأفعالا

عن شيخِ واسط تنقل الأفعالا

The wonders shone forth in existence, and began

The miracles were majestic in existence, so they became

to relay the deeds of the Sheikh of Wasit.

جلنا بطالعها السعدي فأبرزت

جلنا بطالعها السعدي فأبرزت

فينا بدائرة البروز كمالا

فينا بدائرة البروز كمالا

We roamed under their auspicious ascendant, and they revealed

By its auspicious rising, it revealed in us

perfection within us, in the circle of manifestation.

In the sphere of emergence, perfection

وبدت شؤن العارفين فصيغت

وبدت شؤن العارفين فصيغت

مع عزِّها في ساقنا خلخالا

مع عزِّها في ساقنا خلخالا

And the workings of the gnostics appeared, and were fashioned

And the state of the gnostics appeared, so it was molded

with all their glory into an anklet around our leg.

With its honor in our heels, anklets

وتسلَّق القوم الكرام بأثرنا

وتسلَّق القوم الكرام بأثرنا

لتصحح الأفعال والأقوالا

لتصحح الأفعال والأقوالا

And the noble folk climbed in our footsteps,

And the honorable people climbed our effects

so that deeds and words might be set right.

To correct the deeds and words

بلغت عزائمنا السماك وإنَّها

بلغت عزائمنا السماك وإنَّها

سحبت على هام العلى الأذيالا

سحبت على هام العلى الأذيالا

Our resolves reached al-Simak, and indeed they

Our resolves reached the heavens, and they

trailed their hems over the crowns of the heights.

Dragged the train of the Most High on the sky's brow

نسقت لنا الخمم الرفيعة فارتقت

نسقت لنا الخمم الرفيعة فارتقت

واستغرقت بفعالها الأجيالا

واستغرقت بفعالها الأجيالا

Lofty aspirations were arrayed for us, and rose,

It composed for us the lofty tent, so it ascended

and encompassed the generations through their deeds.

And immersed with its actions the generations

فدعائما للأرض قد قام الجبا

فدعائما للأرض قد قام الجبا

لُ ونحن قمنا للجبال جبالا

لُ ونحن قمنا للجبال جبالا

Thus, as pillars for the earth, stood the moun-

So our pillars for the earth stood up mountains

-tains; and we stood as mountains for the mountains.

And we stood up for the mountains, mountains

صحِّح لنا بالصدق قلبك إن ترم

صحِّح لنا بالصدق قلبك إن ترم

من فيضنا الجمِّ النوال نوالا

من فيضنا الجمِّ النوال نوالا

Set your heart right toward us with sincerity, if you seek

Correct your heart with truthfulness if you intend

a gift from our outpouring, abundant in bounty.

From our abundant grace, a share to attain

ودع الدعيَّ بحبه فبزوره

ودع الدعيَّ بحبه فبزوره

ظنَّ الحقيقة في الشؤن خيالا

ظنَّ الحقيقة في الشؤن خيالا

And leave the pretender with his love, for through his falsehood

And leave the false claimant due to his love, for with his lies

he deemed reality in the spiritual workings an illusion.

He thought the reality in affairs fantasy

ولنحن سبار القلوب وإنَّنا

ولنحن سبار القلوب وإنَّنا

كلنا له بالنوع مما كالا

كلنا له بالنوع مما كالا

And indeed we probe hearts, and truly we

While we are the drinkers of hearts, and we

measured out to him in kind what he measured out.

Are all for Him in the species what was seemly

تجلى كؤس شربنا في حانةٍ

تجلى كؤس شربنا في حانةٍ

قد قدست والسعد فيها جالا

قد قدست والسعد فيها جالا

Our drinking cups are polished in a tavern

The cup we drank appeared in a tavern

that has been sanctified, where good fortune roams.

That sanctified, and happiness in it glistened

فاشرب هنيئاً من شارب كرعه

فاشرب هنيئاً من شارب كرعه

قد كان في الشرع القويم حلالا

قد كان في الشرع القويم حلالا

So drink with delight from a drinker whose draught

So drink happily from a drinker whose drinking

has been lawful under the upright sacred law.

Was in the upright law made permitted

وإذا ثملت بحبِّ من همنا به

وإذا ثملت بحبِّ من همنا به

خلِّ الدلال وجانب الإدلالا

خلِّ الدلال وجانب الإدلالا

And when you grow drunk with love for the One who enraptures us,

And if you become intoxicated with the love of our beloved

leave coquetry behind, and shun presumption.

Leave the guide, and avoid guiding

واحفظ طريقتنا فنج طريقها

واحفظ طريقتنا فنج طريقها

عن نهج طه ذرَّة ما مالا

عن نهج طه ذرَّة ما مالا

And safeguard our way, for the course of its path

And keep our way, so you save its path

has not strayed an atom from Taha’s way.

From the course of Taha, not deviating a bit

والزم بصدق السرِّ سدَّة بابنا

والزم بصدق السرِّ سدَّة بابنا

واطرح على أعتابنا الأثقالا

واطرح على أعتابنا الأثقالا

And cleave in inward sincerity to the threshold of our door,

And cling with the sincerity of mystery to our door's threshold

and cast your burdens upon our thresholds.

And cast upon our doorsteps the burdens

فالله عوَّدنا بسابق فضله

فالله عوَّدنا بسابق فضله

لرجالنا أن نحمل الأحمالا

لرجالنا أن نحمل الأحمالا

For God has accustomed us, through His prior grace,

For God accustomed us with His prior grace

to bear the burdens for our men.

For our men to bear the burdens

عزفت عن الدنيا الدنيَّة كلَّها

عزفت عن الدنيا الدنيَّة كلَّها

منا القلوب والقت الآمالا

منا القلوب والقت الآمالا

From all this lowly world turned away

The hearts turned away from the lowly life, all of it

the hearts within us, and cast off their hopes;

From us, and hopes were cast

وتعلَّقت بالله جلَّ جلاله

وتعلَّقت بالله جلَّ جلاله

فأثابنا الإقبال والإجلالا

فأثابنا الإقبال والإجلالا

and they clung to God—exalted is His majesty—

And clung to God, majestic is His majesty

so He rewarded us with favor and honor.

So He rewarded us with favor and awe

ما رام يقصر شوطنا عن رفعةٍ

ما رام يقصر شوطنا عن رفعةٍ

حسداً لئيم الطور الأطالا

حسداً لئيم الطور الأطالا

None sought to cut our course short of exaltation,

None who sought to shorten our extent to loftiness

envious and base of nature, without its growing longer.

Out of mean envy, the prolonged blamed

وبوهمه ما شان شأن جنابنا

وبوهمه ما شان شأن جنابنا

إلا ونال بعزه إذلالا

إلا ونال بعزه إذلالا

And never, in his delusion, did he blemish the dignity of our presence

And by his delusions the state of our prominence

without meeting humiliation through his pride.

Except it earned by its honor humiliation

فتح الكريم لنا قلوباً لم تزل

فتح الكريم لنا قلوباً لم تزل

يوم الملمَّةِ تفتح الأقفالا

يوم الملمَّةِ تفتح الأقفالا

The Generous One opened hearts for us that never cease

So the Generous opened for us hearts that never

to open locks on the day of calamity.

Ceased on the day of tribulation to open locks

وطوى بنا من نشر باهر سرِّه

وطوى بنا من نشر باهر سرِّه

سرّاً به زكَّى لنا الأعمالا

سرّاً به زكَّى لنا الأعمالا

And He enfolded in us, from His radiant secret’s unfolding,

And He folded with us from the dissemination of His manifest secret

a secret by which He purified our deeds.

A secret by which He purified for us the deeds

وأقام فينا همةً لو حاضرت

وأقام فينا همةً لو حاضرت

طوداً بسلطان الجلال لزالا

طوداً بسلطان الجلال لزالا

And He established in us a resolve which, were it to confront

And He established in us a zeal which if present

a mountain with majesty’s power, that mountain would vanish.

A mountain by the authority of majesty would collapse

ها نحن آياتُ الإله بخلقه

ها نحن آياتُ الإله بخلقه

قدما أرنَّ لمجدنا جلجالا

قدما أرنَّ لمجدنا جلجالا

Behold, we are the signs of God among His creation;

We marched for our glory, clamoring

from of old, a ringing peal has sounded for our glory.

Cling to our secret at our presence's door if

لازم بسرك باب حضرتنا اذا

لازم بسرك باب حضرتنا اذا

جار الزمان وسدُّ بغي حالا

جار الزمان وسدُّ بغي حالا

Keep inwardly to the door of our presence when

Time passed and closed any state

time grows unjust and a barrier of oppression intervenes.

And observe the tidings of the heavens, for we

وارقب بشارات السماء فإننا

وارقب بشارات السماء فإننا

قمنا عن الهادي الأمين ظلالا

قمنا عن الهادي الأمين ظلالا

And watch for heaven’s glad tidings, for indeed we

Stood from the Trustworthy Guide as shadows

have stood as shadows of the trustworthy Guide.

And through the house of the Prince, our bands climbed

وببيت حيدرة الأمير تسلَّقت

وببيت حيدرة الأمير تسلَّقت

أفواجنا في كونها أبطالا

أفواجنا في كونها أبطالا

And through the house of Haydara the prince ascended

In its being, heroes

our hosts, heroes in their very being.

Our hearts carried the treasuries of the unseen

حملت خزانات الغيوبب قلوبنا

حملت خزانات الغيوبب قلوبنا

فصباحها في سرنا يتلالا

فصباحها في سرنا يتلالا

Our hearts bore the treasuries of the unseen,

So their dawn in our mystery recites

so their dawn sparkles within our secret.

And we were known between the companions of revelation

ولقد عرفنا بين اصحاب الوحا

ولقد عرفنا بين اصحاب الوحا

للمرتضى أسد الكتائب آلا

للمرتضى أسد الكتائب آلا

And indeed we are known among the men of battle,

For the Chosen One, the Lion of the regiments

as the family of al-Murtada, the lion of the battalions.
