قرأناwe read بجِفْرِin the jafr (esoteric book) الغيبِthe unseen سبعَةَseven أسْطُرٍlines
قرأنا بجِفْرِ الغيبِ سبعَةَ أسْطُرٍ
نظَمْنَthey strung لأهلِfor the people of الفهمِunderstanding أَفلاذَfragments of جوهَرِjewels
نظَمْنَ لأهلِ الفهمِ أَفلاذَ جوهَرِ
We read seven lines in the jafr of the unseen,
We read in the book of the unseen seven lines
Which strung fragments of jewels for those of understanding.
That we composed for the people of understanding, gems of essence
تواضَعْbe humble إذاwhen ألفيْتَyou encounter ربَّa person possessed of تواضُعٍhumility
تواضَعْ إذا ألفيْتَ ربَّ تواضُعٍ
وقابِلْand meet بكِبْرِwith pride القلبِof heart للمتكَبِّرِtoward the arrogant
وقابِلْ بكِبْرِ القلبِ للمتكَبِّرِ
Be humble when you encounter a person of humility,
Be humble when you meet the Lord of humility
And meet the arrogant with pride of heart.
And meet the arrogant with magnanimity of heart
وباعِدْand shun أُناساًpeople بالظَّلامِin darkness قدhave indeed انْطوَوْاwrapped themselves
وباعِدْ أُناساً بالظَّلامِ قد انْطوَوْا
وصاحِبْand befriend بصدقِwith sincerity of الحالِone's inner state كلَّevery منوَّرِillumined person
وصاحِبْ بصدقِ الحالِ كلَّ منوَّرِ
And shun people who have wrapped themselves in darkness,
And distance yourself from those shrouded in darkness
And with sincerity of spirit, befriend every illumined one.
And accompany with sincerity those enlightened
وجانِبْand avoid بعزْمٍwith resolve منكَof your own منwhoever قامَstands حاسِداًenvious
وجانِبْ بعزْمٍ منكَ من قامَ حاسِداً
وخذْand take نفحَةًa breath منfrom فكرَةِthe reflection of المُتَفَكِّرِthe contemplative
وخذْ نفحَةً من فكرَةِ المُتَفَكِّرِ
And with resolve of your own, shun whoever rises in envy,
And resolve to avoid those who envy
And take a breath from the contemplative's reflection.
And take inspiration from the thoughts of the thoughtful
ولاand do not تبسُطْنَspread out كفًّاa palm ولاnor تغلُلْنَfetter يداًa hand
ولا تبسُطْنَ كفًّا ولا تغلُلْنَ يداً
وِساطاًmoderately كشأنِlike the practice of الهاشِمِيِّthe Hashimite المُطَهَّرِthe purified one
وِساطاً كشأنِ الهاشِمِيِّ المُطَهَّرِ
Do not spread a palm wide, nor fetter a hand;
Do not extend a palm or shackle a hand
Take the middle course, like the purified Hashimite.
As was the way of the purified Hashimi
وسلِّمْand submit لأهلِto the holders of الأَمرِauthority ماas long as عِشتَyou live أَمرهُمْtheir command
وسلِّمْ لأهلِ الأَمرِ ما عِشتَ أَمرهُمْ
وكنْand be ناصِراًa champion للشَّرعِfor the sacred law غيرnot محقِّرِone who belittles
وكنْ ناصِراً للشَّرعِ غير محقِّرِ
And submit to the command of those in authority for as long as you live,
And submit to the command of the people in authority
And be a champion of the sacred law, not one who belittles it.
And be a supporter of sacred law, not scorning it
وعامِلْand treat بحُسْنِwith goodness of الخَلقِcharacter كلَّevery امْرِءٍperson وكنْand be
وعامِلْ بحُسْنِ الخَلقِ كلَّ امْرِءٍ وكنْ
شديداًstern علىtoward ذيone possessed of الخِدْعَةِdeceit المُتَنَكِّرِdisguised
شديداً على ذي الخِدْعَةِ المُتَنَكِّرِ
And treat every person with good character, and be
And treat every person with good manners
Stern toward the deceitful one in disguise.
And be firm with those of cunning disguise
ووحِّدْand affirm God's oneness وخَلِّand forsake الإتِّحادَthe doctrine of union وأَهلَهُand its adherents
ووحِّدْ وخَلِّ الإتِّحادَ وأَهلَهُ
وخُذْهاand take them تَماماًin full تلكَthose سبعَةُseven أَسْطُرِlines
وخُذْها تَماماً تلكَ سبعَةُ أَسْطُرِ
And affirm God's oneness; forsake the doctrine of union and its adherents,
And unify, and make unification and its people sincere
And take them in full: those are seven lines.
That is the complete seven lines
